October Angel Message: Gratitude and Attention

Enjoy this monthly message from the angels! Thanks for being here and see you next month. Don’t be so afraid. Your path is perfect. Your angels see it all from above and from within and see the perfection in it all. You are God’s own beloved child and friend. You will never be left out to dry. Trust us in this. We are carrying you. We are holding your hand and guiding you even and especially when life seems hard and unmanageable. Reign in your thoughts and allow yourself to dwell on all the good in your life. What you pay attention to causes things to shift. What you look at grows. Tell us what you are thankful for. State it out loud or say it...

Love Is All Around

This month I'm trying something a little different. Similar to my angel readings, this month I tuned in and wrote the message I received from the angels. I hope you enjoy! I can't take credit for this wisdom! Your angels are here for you. God, in any way you conceive, is love, and within and all around you. At times it may not seem so. The world is a trickster. Shift your awareness to your inner space. See the world through the eyes of love. A neighbor walking a dog, birds chirping in the morning as they have for eons, a tree growing. These are pockets of God in a world that seems far removed. There is nothing but God. The magic lies in finding that...

Seeing the Love

A question that has come up time and again is - Where is God when tragedy strikes? It's easy to feel confused when watching the news or when experiencing difficulties in your own life. I'm not a sage or a wisdom-keeper, but I can tell you what I've learned since my Spiritually-Transformative Experience (STE). I hope it will be helpful. As I write about often, in my STE I felt God's love very intensely, for me and for everyone. I saw light in all things and people. This experience, or really, series of experiences, was so profound that it shifted my life completely. But as many people ask and as I wondered in the past, if that light is there all the time, why doesn't it seem...

Lashon Hara & Talking Trash

The past few weeks I've been thinking a lot about the importance of speaking kindly about others, and about how easy and yet how harmful it can be to gossip. Gossip can feel good because it brings us closer to the people we're with, but it is ultimately harmful to ourselves, to the people we're talking to, and to the people we are talking about. How can we stop? It requires real compassion, and an understanding that we don't have the full story on everyone around us. We need to be aware of the power of our words and be truly committed to living a life of love and non-violence. As a dear friend put it, "everyone needs a little grace." I love reminding myself of...

Staying with the Breath

Today, amidst Coronavirus and the memories of 9/11, I'm thinking about the breath and about how important it is to breathe. Last summer I ended up in the hospital with spreading limb numbness that was eventually diagnosed as a mild form of Guillain-Barré. Guillain-Barré syndrome is a rare autoimmune response that at its most intense can result in total, but usually temporary, paralysis and require use of a ventilator. It was a terrifying but important time. I learned how precious our health can be. I also learned how vital breathing is. I watched my oxygen sats on the monitor and breathed deeply. Sometimes they dropped and it felt scary. When I was able to stay calm and centered, I could breathe in fully and my numbers would...

Healing Racism

Healing in the context of the racism inherent in our society has been on my mind this week and, truly, for many years. What is my place in this part of the journey? Where can I best serve? Many years ago, I found myself in a circle of Black healers, thanks to my primary Reiki Teacher, herself a woman of color. She took me into her world and showed me a side of reality I hadn't been as aware of before that. For that I am grateful. I spent weeks and years learning from her and from an amazing group of healers who were healing more than I had ever imagined. Yes, my rape and trauma were awful, but they were not compounded by generations of...

Worthy of Love

You are worthy of love. You are God's own creation. You can remind yourself of this truth by saying mantras throughout the day, such as "God loves me," "I am worthy of love," or "I am love." I was reminded of this truth in my meditation this morning. Knowing that you are loved just as you are heals many wounds. You don't have to do or be anything special. You already are special, exactly the way you are. It became a part of many of our childhood experiences that one was better than another. We learned to compete, and to feel separate from love. Return to your highest truth by letting love in, all the way to your heart. This is not something we need to think...

Shining Your Light

Each of us is born with unique gifts that make us who we are. Your gifts could include an ability to listen well, a great sense of humor, helping others, being good with money, or many many more. While your gifts are remarkable just as they are, all of us benefit when you use your gifts to help humanity. It's like a key in a lock that opens a door to shared peace and growth. You may already know what your unique gifts are. You may still be searching. In a world of social media and hype, it can seem like everyone else has amazing gifts, while you do not. I've felt that way, at least! One way to learn what your gifts are is to see...

Returning to the Heart

Thank you so much to those of who were following along on my journey in the hospital last week. I was admitted for three days and given all sorts of tests which came up clear, which was great news. They released me to the care of my primary care physician and a neurologist. So far most possibilities have been ruled out, but the numbness in my arm and my legs persists.  In the end, the doctor asked me if I was experiencing anxiety or depression. I realized that while I became pretty good at taking care of myself before I had a family, becoming a mom, getting married, and working have really put my own well-being on the back burner. Maybe I wasn’t monitoring myself as...

Respecting the Beliefs of Others

One of my favorite parts about being American is the importance placed on freedom of religion. I love that people are free to practice and believe in whichever way they wish, and I love that I have been able to explore many types beliefs freely and openly. Over the years I have come to have some pretty strong beliefs about God. While part of me wants to make everyone believe the same way I do, I’ve found a lot of joy in the many pathways to God. We can love and respect one another and still believe different things. It’s a beautiful path. ...
