The Healing Power of Reiki
After years of studying and practicing Reiki, I often feel like I take the subtle healing power of Reiki for granted. I began studying Reiki when I was 23. Back then, it was an amazing revelation. I was astounded by it. Over time, I got used to it. I studied other healing modalities. Reiki was cool, but so were all these other healing paths, I thought.
But something happened last week that really upped my appreciation for Reiki. I began working one-on-one with a student in need of healing and guidance. As I began teaching her about Reiki in this intimate setting, I started to truly appreciate its power and promise. What a beautiful method, so accessible and simple, and yet beyond our human understanding. Reiki heals. Reiki can do no harm. Reiki is gentle. Reiki works within any belief system. It’s truly wondrous.
Since teaching Reiki in this one-on-one format, I was also reminded of the Reiki meditation called Hatsurei-Ho, as well as the Reiki principles. If you’ve studied Reiki, you know the five Reiki principles, which are beautiful and so simple, but Hatsurei-Ho is not as commonly taught in my experience. Only one of my two Reiki teachers taught it.
Here is a video of one of my Reiki teachers explaining how to do Hatusrei-Ho, for those of you who have studied Reiki and are interested in practicing this type of meditation. I hope it’s helpful to you!
And here are the Reiki principles, just for a refresher and pick-me-up. There are so many types of prayers and forms of meditation out there. These are so simple and timeless, and I’m very thankful for them.
Just for today, I will not anger.
Just for today, I will not worry.
Just for today, I will be thankful for my many blessings.
Just for today, I will do my work honestly.
Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing.
