Let your Old Self Grow
Along my path I’ve often felt like I have to completely release my old self as I embrace a newer, more healed version of myself. Embracing new aspects of myself on my path has been a cause of worry for me. This isn’t who I was before. What will people think of me? Do I have to let go of everything I was before and become a completely new person?
In my meditations this month I was given the understanding that I don’t have to let go of my old self – there’s room for newer and more evolved aspects of me alongside the rest of me. I can embrace being a more loving and spiritually attuned person while still living in the world as a mom and speech-language pathologist. I don’t have to let everything about my previous life go. I can become the person I always hoped I could be while still holding onto the parts of me that are truly “me.”
Love knows how much you can handle. When you connect your heart to love, God, and your higher self, you may be in for some changes, but they won’t come faster than you can integrate them. You may also find that parts of yourself that you didn’t like, or things that had caused you pain, will become part of a tapestry of blessings in your new life. All things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28).
Don’t give up who you used to be. Let the parts of you that don’t align with love and your truest version of yourself melt away, but keep the parts of you that make you who you are: kindness, love, grace, intelligence, patience, joy, freedom, wit, friendliness, forgiveness.
