Living Love in the Time of Coronavirus

Living Love in the Time of Coronavirus

This past week has been scary at times, and I’ve seen the power of the collective to sow and create fear. I’ve also seen the beauty, love, and true generosity that is possible when humans come together for the good of all. I’ve been dancing between the two, and working on making choices that bring me closer to the beautiful experiences of love that are possible at this time.

I’ve been relishing this time I have with my daughter. She always asks me to stay home with her, and she’s gotten her wish. Yesterday while eating dinner she said, “I wish summer could last forever.” We’ve played in the yard, gone on walks, made crafts and cookies, and started learning the piano. It’s been a pure delight. Mickey has begun doing many of the projects he’d been putting off, including cleaning off the porch – yay! And I’ve been finding time to meditate, garden, and enjoy the nature in our yard.

There is a lot of anxiety about how people will make ends meet. I know I have lost work and income in my primary job as a speech-language pathologist. Thankfully soon we should begin providing teletherapy to families. (Don’t ask me how I will manage that with a 3-year-old in the house, but I’ll try!) All small businesses have a lot to navigate as we work through this shut down. Shops, restaurants, and coffee shops are all facing severe losses right now. And yet, I’ve seen so many beautiful people come together to help small business owners and employees make it through. It’s been very uplifting to witness.

God doesn’t waste an opportunity and we’re never left out to dry. If you’re feeling the stress, take time to turn off media and get centered in who you are, who you truly are. Meditation and prayer help a lot, as do doing things you love. I’ve made a practice to send out remote Reiki to my Reiki clients and students, which has helped me feel connected to the love within all things.

What are some ways you can take care of yourself today?
