Raising Your Vibration
This is a term that’s thrown around a fair amount in healing communities, and it’s one that I’ve been thinking about lately in my meditations and in my daily life. To me, raising my vibration means becoming more connected to love and to the lighter side of life. When I’ve had a high vibration in my life, everything truly does feel lighter. The clutter in my mind clears and I can breathe easily. Everything feels more joyful and calm and I’m connected to my highest self.
It doesn’t have to be hard to raise your vibration. It starts inside of yourself. Here are some of the things that have helped me raise my vibration and experience joy and peace. Of course, like everything, I’m still working on it.
Breathe and release worried thoughts. Mindfulness exercises and meditation helps. Even just five minutes can help clear the debris and clutter of daily life. But what if you don’t have five minutes? It helps me to just feel my feet on the floor wherever they are, and breathe doing whatever it is I’m doing already, be it typing, doing dishes, or putting my daughter to bed. Become present in your body and let your thoughts dissipate.
Smiling. OK, I know smiling has gotten somewhat of a bad rap lately since so many people tell women to “just smile” when they’re upset. I’ve had that happen too. But, when you’re not being forced to, smiling can really release a wave of joy and peace. There are even beautiful smiling meditations, such as this one by the wonderful Thich Nhat Hanh.
Prayer. Praying to God and your guides and angels can help you clear the mental clutter and return to a high vibration. They are here to help you be your truest self and return to God’s love.
Food choices. This is a tough one for me because I love to eat, but food choices can raise or lower our vibration. Pay attention to how you feel when you eat certain foods. Low vibration foods typically consist of sugar, alcohol, and processed foods. High vibration foods come from the earth and carry the healing power of nature. Unfortunately these foods are not always accessible to every person because of the unequal societal structure on this planet. I do what I can to support organizations that are working on these issues.
Mindful Movement. Whether this is yoga or walking meditation, mindful movement is a beautiful way to return to a higher vibration. I’ve mentioned before that Kundalini yoga has been really beneficial to me in this regard (when I actually practice it!).
Reiki and Energy Healing. I’ve received great benefits from having Reiki treatments semi-regularly over the years, as well as practicing Reiki. There are many forms of energy healing out there and there is one that is right for you. Reiki and other forms of energy healing help me feel very light, calm, and connected to my heart and to love.
Spending Time Outside. The earth is our home, and nature contains so much healing power for each of us. Stand with your feet on the ground and connect with the earth.
Minimizing Negative media/TV shows. Watching negative media and even being on social media sites may lower your vibration. What we take in becomes part of us. Don’t ignore what is happening in the world, but find a balance that supports you. For me, this has involved deactivating my Facebook account, and sometimes taking breaks from Instagram if I’m getting lost in it. It also means balancing my “regular” news with good news websites I’ve mentioned before, like www.goodnewsnetwork.com or www.dailygood.org.
